This was my final presentation for my first year of Spanish. The presentation was a compilation of many of the assignments I had done over the semester. Some of the writing that is included in this portfolio is about Boston, rowing, life at Wesleyan, life during the pandemic, introducing my friends, talking about Spanish culture, and stating things that I like. Since each of these entries was a piece of writing that I had done in my freshman year, my Spanish capabilities are quite varied throughout. Looking back at this, I can also see a lot of who I was freshman year. Because the intent of many of these writings were to just practice my Spanish by asking me questions about myself, there is a lot that I have shared about who I was and the habits that I did.
I’m glad that even though I stopped taking Spanish after sophomore year, I am still able to read and understand each of these entries. Going to Spain for a month had actually cast some doubt about the amount of Spanish that I had retained, however to me, reading Spanish is a lot easier than understanding what someone is saying in conversation. This is especially because when learning Spanish, there was never one accent or dialect that I looked at, so often times it is a very textbook version of Spanish that I understand. Also, I am able to read this at whatever speed I please, and people in Spain tend to talk a little too fast for my comprehension.
